The Importance of Mobile Optimisation
Earlier this year Google began implementing Mobile First Indexing, this means when Google crawls a website they will predominantly use the mobile version of the content for indexing and ranking. If you haven’t already, now is the time to look at mobile optimisation for your website.

As more and more internet traffic comes from mobile devices and tablets it makes sense that Google have adapted their ranking algorithms. Curious, I decided to take a look at analytics from some of my own websites…
The stats above are from 3 different domains over a 30 day period. Over half of the visitors to these sites came via mobile / tablet which emphasises just how important it is ensure your website is mobile and tablet friendly.
Implementing mobile optimisation
Typically, the majority of our clients host with us using WordPress, Magento or another of the big content management systems. If you are using an up to date theme/template for your site the chances are it will be responsive and mobile friendly.
If your template is not of a responsive design you may wish to consider creating a separate mobile version of your website. If you decide to do this and subsequently use a separate url for desktop / mobile content, you should ensure that your mobile site contains the same content as your desktop site.
Testing your mobile optimisation
A good tool to see whether your website is set up for mobile optimisation is Google’s PageSpeed Insights.
Having a mobile ready website will ultimately help you get found on Google… Page speed is a critical factor when it comes to ranking your website and their tool provides suggestions that can be made to improve mobile optimisation. Similarly it also tells you what you are doing well at.
