How to add Google Analytics tracking to Magento
If you’ve been following our previous Magento guides, you should now have a fully functioning Magento store. Hopefully you’ve had some customers browsing your store and you may even have been lucky enough to have secured a few sales!
Whether or not you have managed to sell any of your products yet, one thing is for sure – you’ll want to be able to track any visitors to your site, so that you can monitor your Magento store’s conversion rate and improve it if possible.
We’ll show you how you can quickly add Google Analytics tracking to your Magento store in the steps below.

Sign up for a Google Analytics account
If you don’t already have a Google Analytics account, you can sign up for one here – www.google.com/analytics/sign_up.html.
You will receive a Google Analytics account number. Make a note of it as you will need it when configuring Magento shortly.
Log into the Magento admin panel
Log into your admin panel by visiting the admin URL
This is by default www.yourdomain.com/index.php/admin unless you specified otherwise when installing Magento
Using the top menu, navigate to System -> Configuration
Using the menu on the left, navigate to Sales -> Google API
Expand the Google Analytics section
Select “Yes” in the dropdown next to Enable
Change the type to “Google Analytics
Enter your Google account number (recorded in step 1)
Click the “Save Config” button in the top right hand area of the page.
Your config has now been saved
